Mixed choir
Outside of Hungary, Gyöngyösi’s name is primarily known for his choral art. The a cappella works, based almost exclusively on Latin sacred texts, cover a wide range of human existence and emotions, from joyful, rhythmic works (GLORIA KOJONIENSIS; IUBILATE DEO) to depressive, apocalyptic sadness (QUO IBO A SPIRITU TUO), angry-desperate mood (DOMINE DEUS MEUS; DIXIT IN CORDE SUO; DE PROFUNDIS) and comforting, tender, loving works (O MARIA, NOLI FLERE; CARITAS PATIENS EST; BEATI MUNDO CORDE). In recent years, he has been writing large-scale choral cycles to the texts of the Holy Week liturgy (TENEBRAE RESPONSORIA).
