Although for me, it’s been the most exciting and exhilarating job in the world since childhood, being a contemporary composer has its difficulties.

I am thinking in particular of the underpayment and unpredictability of the profession: while a large-scale composition can take months or even longer to complete, I am only compensated after the work is finished. Undoubtedly, however, bills must be paid during the completion process as well, and this, along with the unforeseeable nature of commissions, have in the past landed me in several dire situations.
